RFFI received more than 250 submissions from major artists and photographers from across the United States. The objective was to depict the plight and beauty of our woodlands in each of the US Forest Regions with a special competition for art capturing the redwoods in the Northern California Redwood Region.

"Mother of the Forest" by Michael Bagdonas
Internationally renowned artist, juror, critic and curator Bruce Helander served as the Juror. His work is in over fifty museum collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Brooklyn Museum, the Smithsonian, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and most recently, the Whitney Museum of American Art and Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Los Angeles. He has also served as Provost and Vice President of the distinguished Rhode Island School of Design.
Net proceeds from the competition and the sale of the artwork go to support the Redwood Forest Foundation's innovative model of purchasing, restoring and managing 'working community forests.'
